A — Intensifying Comparatives
At B2 level, you must go beyond bigger than. Use intensifiers to express degree precisely.
much / far / a lot / considerably / significantly + comparative
slightly / a little / somewhat + comparative (small difference)
no + comparative (= same level, not better)
Remote work is far more flexible than traditional office hours.
The new policy is considerably more effective than the previous one.
The situation is slightly better than it was last month.
His second attempt was no better than his first.
💡 B2 tip : remplace very big par far larger, very good par considerably better, very bad par significantly worse. Les examinateurs récompensent la précision.
B — Double Comparatives : the + comparative … the + comparative
Cette structure exprime une relation proportionnelle entre deux choses.
The harder you practise, the faster you will improve.
The more you read in English, the richer your vocabulary becomes.
The higher the salary, the greater the responsibility.
The sooner we start, the better.
⚠️ Erreur fréquente : ne jamais dire "more … more". ✘ More you study, more you learn. ✔ The more you study, the more you learn.
C — Superlatives with Intensifiers
by far the + superlatif → intensificateur le plus fort
easily the + superlatif → informel, confiant
arguably the + superlatif → opinion discutable
one of the + superlatif + pluriel → superlatif partiel

Abidjan is arguably the most dynamic city in West Africa.
English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world.
D — Advanced Equality Structures
nowhere near as … as → beaucoup moins que (négation emphatique)
every bit as … as → tout aussi (affirmation emphatique)
twice / three times as … as → multiples
not nearly as … as → moins que prévu
His performance was nowhere near as impressive as last year's.
She is every bit as capable as her male colleagues.
The project took twice as long as we had planned.
The results were not nearly as good as the team had hoped.
E — the more / less … the more / less
The more … the less → proportion inverse
The less … the more → relation inverse
The more time you waste, the less chance you have of success.
The less you worry about mistakes, the more confident you become.
