A Better Future Starts With Your Choices
Every year, thousands of students in Abidjan face one of the most important decisions of their lives: how to prepare for their national exams. Aminata, a 17-year-old student from Yopougon, knows this very well. She has a simple but powerful philosophy: "If you work hard every day, results come naturally."
Aminata attends a public high school in the commune of Yopougon. Her mornings start early. If she wakes up before 6 a.m., she always has time to review her notes before class. She says that when students do not review regularly, they forget most of what they learn. This is a fact she has observed many times among her classmates.
Her English teacher, Mr. Koné, often reminds the class about the power of consistency. "If you practise English for just 30 minutes a day, your level improves significantly within three months," he says. He also warns them: "If you wait until the last week before the exam to study, you will not have enough time to cover everything."
Aminata has already made her plans for after the BEPC. If she passes her exam with a good grade, she will enrol in a science programme at a prestigious lycée in Cocody. If she gets the opportunity, she will also join an English conversation club to strengthen her oral skills.
Her friend Konan, however, is less organised. He often says, "I will study if I feel motivated." But Aminata always answers him: "If you wait for motivation, it will never come. Discipline is what moves you forward."
In Abidjan, like everywhere else, success is not a matter of luck. If students understand that their daily choices shape their future, they will approach their studies with a completely different mindset.
📝 Sujet 1 — Réponse courte (60–80 mots)
Based on the text, explain in your own words the difference between Aminata's and Konan's approach to studying. Use at least one Zero Conditional and one First Conditional in your answer.
Aminata is a disciplined student. If she wakes up early, she always reviews her notes — this is a daily habit that leads to consistent progress. Konan, on the other hand, waits for motivation before studying. If he does not change his approach, he will struggle during the exam. Aminata understands that discipline, not motivation, is the key to success.

📝 Sujet 2 — Paragraphe développé (100–130 mots)
Mr. Koné says: "If you practise English for just 30 minutes a day, your level improves significantly." Do you agree with this statement? Write a structured paragraph explaining your point of view. Use at least two conditionals (Zero and/or First) in your answer.
I strongly agree with Mr. Koné's statement. Consistency is the foundation of language learning. If a student practises English for 30 minutes every day, their brain processes and retains new vocabulary and structures more effectively — this is simply how memory works. Moreover, if a learner combines daily practice with active listening and speaking, their progress will be even faster. However, the quality of practice also matters. If you spend 30 minutes passively reading without engagement, the results will be limited. In my opinion, focused and regular effort, even in small amounts, will always produce better results than occasional long study sessions.
(108 words — Zero Conditional : "If a student practises... their brain retains..." / First Conditional : "if a learner combines... their progress will be...")
📝 Sujet 3 — Expression personnelle (80–100 mots)
Think about your own life in Abidjan or in Côte d'Ivoire. Write a short paragraph about 3 things you will do to improve your English this year. Use the First Conditional for each one.
This year, I am determined to improve my English through consistent effort. First, if I wake up 30 minutes earlier each morning, I will use that time to listen to an English podcast. Second, if I join an online conversation group, I will practise speaking with people from different countries. Finally, if I write at least five new sentences in English every day, I will build my vocabulary naturally over time. I believe that if I follow these three steps regularly, my English level will reach B2 by the end of the year.
