1) Grammar

In this lesson, students learn how to talk about rooms, places, things in a house, and location.

There is

Use: for one thing / one person

  • There is a bed in the bedroom.
  • There is a table in the kitchen.
  • There is a bathroom upstairs.

There are

Use: for two or more things / people

  • There are two chairs in the kitchen.
  • There are books on the shelf.
  • There are three windows in the house.

Prepositions of Place

Use: to show where something is

  • The sofa is next to the table.
  • The cat is under the chair.
  • The lamp is on the table.
  • The picture is above the sofa.
Simple rules for A1/A2

Use There is with singular nouns.
Use There are with plural nouns.

Use prepositions to describe position: in, on, under, next to, behind, in front of, between, above, near, far from.

My House

I live in a small house with my family. There is a living room, a kitchen, two bedrooms, and a bathroom. In the living room, there is a sofa next to a table. There are two chairs in front of the table. My room is upstairs. There is a bed near the window and a desk under the shelf. In the garden, there are flowers and a small tree.
