Much
Use: with uncountable nouns
How much water do you need? · How much milk is there? · There is not much sugar.
Many
Use: with countable plural nouns
How many apples do you want? · How many eggs are there? · There are many shops in town.
Some / Any
Use: for an indefinite quantity
I want some bread. (affirmative) · Do you have any rice? (question) · I don't have any money. (negative)
Simple rules for A1/A2
Useful words for food, drinks, and shopping. English meaning and French meaning are shown together.
Example: We need food and water.
Example: Water is a drink.
Example: I eat bread every morning.
Example: Rice is popular in Côte d'Ivoire.
Example: She drinks milk.
Example: Drink more water.
Example: There are six eggs.
Example: I bought two apples.
Example: She likes bananas.
Example: I don't want sugar.
Example: Add some salt.
Example: Go to the shop.
Example: We buy fruits at the market.
Example: What is the price?
Example: I don't have much money.
Read the text carefully or listen to it.
At the Market
On Saturday morning, Amina goes to the market with her mother. They buy some bread, some milk, and many apples. They also need some rice and a little sugar. Amina asks, "How much water do we need?" Her mother says, "We need two bottles of water and many vegetables." They do not buy any meat because they already have some at home.
