 Reading: The Journey of an Artist

« Elena is a digital artist who has lived in Berlin for eight years. She moved there a long time ago, in 2018, right after she finished her studies in Rome. At first, life was difficult because she didn’t speak German, but she has been taking intensive classes since her first month in the city. Now, she is almost fluent.
Three years ago, Elena decided to quit her job at an advertising agency to become a full-time freelancer. She has owned her own small studio since 2021. Since she became her own boss, she has worked on many international projects. She has been collaborating with a famous Japanese brand for six months now, and they are very happy with her illustrations.
However, being an artist is hard work. Elena hasn’t taken a real holiday since last summer. She worked for twelve hours every day last week to finish a big project. Despite the fatigue, she doesn’t regret her choice. She realized a long time ago that freedom was more important than a big salary. »

1. Réponses aux questions de compréhension (Reading)
  • How long has Elena been in Berlin?
    • Réponse : She has been in Berlin for eight years. (Elle est à Berlin depuis huit ans).
  • When did she start her own business?
    • Réponse : She started her business three years ago (or since 2021). (Elle a commencé il y a trois ans / depuis 2021).
  • What has she been doing for the last six months?
    • Réponse : She has been collaborating with a famous Japanese brand. (Elle collabore avec une célèbre marque japonaise).
  • When was her last holiday?
    • Réponse : Her last holiday was last summer. She hasn’t taken a holiday since then. (Ses dernières vacances étaient l’été dernier).
 
2. Réponses à la transformation de phrases (Grammaire)
  • Elena moved to Berlin in 2018.  She has lived in Berlin since 2018.
  • She started working for the Japanese brand six months ago.  She has worked for them for six months.
  • The last time she went on holiday was last summer.  She hasn’t been on holiday since last summer.
Consigne : Rédigez un texte de 80 à 120 mots sur votre parcours (études, travail ou passion).
Vous devez inclure au moins :
  1. Deux fois « AGO » pour des événements passés précis.
  2. Deux fois « FOR » pour des durées.
  3. Deux fois « SINCE » pour des points de départ.
Conseil : Utilisez le Present Perfect (I have worked/studied) avec « since » et « for », et le Prétérit (I moved/I started) avec « ago ».
 
Voici un modèle de ce que vous pourriez écrire pour valider le niveau B1 :
 
« I started learning English many years ago, when I was at school. However, I have only been practicing seriously for two years. I joined a conversation club since last January, and it has helped me a lot. Three months ago, I decided to take an official exam. I have been studying every night for two hours since I registered. I feel much more confident now than I did a long time ago. »
